Kids YouTube star JoJo Siwa has recently come out to the public in a TikTok, garnering the attention of millions.
JoJo originally appeared in a video with many openly gay actors, lip syncing the words, “Baby, now you’re one of us” from Paramore's "Ain't It Fun." This immediately created a lot of speculation on her sexual orientation.
Later, JoJo posted a TikTok of herself lip syncing to Lady Gaga’s "Born This Way" saying:
“No matter gay straight or bi, lesbian transgender life, I’m on the right track baby I was born to survive.”
JoJo then went on to officially come out on TikTok Live, stating that she was part of the LGBTQ+ community, but was not yet ready to share details.
While some may see it as controversial, JoJo coming out is setting a big stepping stone in normalizing LGBTQ+ representation in media, especially to the younger generation.
JoJo Siwa's coming out demonstrates to her young audience that their role models can also be part of the LGBTQ+ community and that it is nothing to be ashamed of, allowing the idea to be normalized to her younger viewers.
JoJo Siwa deciding to come out is not only relieving for her, but also sets an example for all the children who look up to her. She is already a role model for thousands of children, and now will be educating these children on being your authentic self.
